Delhi Court Convicts Tahir Hussain and Four Others in Intelligence Bureau Officer Ankit Sharma Murder Case

A Karkardooma court has convicted former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain and four others for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots. The accused were found guilty of murder, kidnapping, and rioting, with sentencing scheduled for July 23, bringing a significant step toward justice for the victim's family.

A Karkardooma court on July 13, 2026, convicted former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain and four others—Nazim, Kasim, Javed, and Anas—for the murder of 26-year-old Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the northeast Delhi riots that claimed 53 lives. The verdict marks a significant development in one of the most high-profile cases linked to the violence that erupted during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The court found the five accused guilty on charges including murder, kidnapping, and rioting while armed with deadly weapons. The ruling was based on witness testimonies and video evidence that allegedly showed a mob gathered on the terrace of Tahir Hussain's residence pelting stones and petrol bombs before Ankit Sharma was killed because he was Hindu.

According to the court's findings, the prosecution established the involvement of the convicted individuals through multiple pieces of evidence presented during the trial. The judgment concluded that the offences committed during the riots resulted in the brutal killing of the Intelligence Bureau officer, making the case one of the most closely watched prosecutions arising from the northeast Delhi violence.

The court has scheduled the sentencing of Tahir Hussain, Nazim, Kasim, Javed, and Anas for July 23. The conviction offers a measure of closure to Ankit Sharma's family, which has pursued justice for years following the deadly riots that were triggered during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The verdict stands as a significant milestone in the legal proceedings connected to one of the darkest chapters of the northeast Delhi violence.
